Raffe Khazadian, a Project Manager at Signer Harris Architects and Carl Nelson at Rolf Jensesn & Associates gave a presentation about changes to the Massachusetts Building Code at the Northeast Buildings and Facilities Maintenance Conference. Raffe and Carl addressed a large crowd of Facility Managers and summarized some critical differences between the 7th Edition and the new 8th Edition of the Code, which took effect in February 2011.
The presentation focused on the following areas of the new code based on the 2009 IBC with our Massachusetts amendments:
Chapter 1: Administration
Chapter 4: Special Use and Occupancy
Chapter 5: Height and Area
Chapter 7: Fire-resistance Rated Construction
Chapter 9: Fire Protection Systems
Chapter 10: Means of Egress
Chapter 34: Existing Buildings (2009 IBC)
