Goals

  • Convert an under-utilized lounge into an effective teaching space to respond to the Law School's needs.

Challenges

  • Create a technologically-enabled classroom which maximizes seating capacity within a limited space.
  • Respect existing design standards while creating a unique and flexible space that responds to the students' needs.
  • Examine the existing programmatic assumptions and explore sensible, effective alternatives.

Design Response

  • Worked with the client to develop a program that responded to their needs in a more comprehensive way.
  • Led clients through a cost-benefit analysis to expand scope which proved worthwhile when the classroom yielded more seats than originally planned.
  • Integrated audio-visual equipment into the design to accommodate the multimedia demands of the modern classroom.
  • Enhanced students' overall learning experience through subtle modifications in the tier-seating arrangement to maximize ideal viewing angles.
  • Selected and specified furniture and finishes that respected the School's existing standards while creating a unique space with its own identity.
