Goals
- Create a more service and "retail" oriented experience for the library patron.
- Improve the operations for the Circulation Department.
Challenges
- Respect the existing modernist architecture with limited changes to the existing finishes in the primary lobby spaces.
- Address a variety of technically incompatible elements, from an open feeling to high security.
Design Response
- Created a strong and dynamic visual center to the Circulation Department, linked directly to the lines of trim and light in the existing lobby.
- Bent the desk and supporting elements to suggest an open book, backlit with illumination.
- Integrated the circulation desk with security elements.
- Designed accessible desks for computer terminals.
